Georgetown College volleyball finishes one of the craziest stretches of the season with a straight set win over Mid-South Conference rival Campbellsville University.
The No. 7 Tigers (11-1, 4-0) have played eight matches, four in conference, in the past nine days. Seven of those they won in straight sets. Thursday GC was back in the friendly confines of Davis-Reid Alumni Gym and rolled 25-21, 25-23, 25-21.
"We took care of business," said Tiger coach Nick Griffin. "That is what you have to do in weeks like this. We stayed focused and won all our matches. Now we have a few days off to breathe and then we bring in another top conference team in Lindsey Wilson next week."
Neither team hit very well in the tight match, but Georgetown managed one more kill. Junior powerhouses Caraline Maher and Rachel Eubanks led the way. Each hit .400 or above and accounted for half of the teams 36 kills.
Lindsey Martindale and Stephanie Gurren tallied 14 and 13 assists respectively. Kristen Schellhaas again directed the defense with 18 digs and Courtney Grafton chipped in with 13.
The Blue Raiders, also currently in the Top 25 coaches poll, will come to Georgetown 7 pm Tuesday for what is sure to be another big showdown.
