Georgetown will be buzzing with tennis action the next several days as the exciting ITA Regional Tournament returns. Georgetown College serves as the host site once again and will be using both the Lackey Tennis Center and the Scott County High School courts.
Thursday the men's draw will be played at East Campus, while the women are at the high school. Action starts promptly at 8 am with doubles and around noon for singles. Roughly 60 men's and 45 women's matches are needed to be played on opening day.
In the men's draw, the returning singles champion from Lindsey Wilson will be back to defend his title as well as the women's champion from University of the Cumberlands.
There will be 13 teams in action – LWC, UC, Campbellsville, Cumberland, Brescia, Martin Methodist, Asbury, Bethel, St. Catharine, Bluefield, Pikeville, Milligan and Georgetown.
"We are really excited to have it back this year," said Tiger coach Jessica Cunningham. "Last year we had a lot of rain, but all involved handled it really well and Lexington tennis centers were huge as we got indoor facilities.
"We are hoping for really good weather and really good tennis. But it is really great to see that all these teams and coaches appreciated how this event, with all its chaos, was run last year to want us to host again. It means we put on a quality event and that's great to know."
