Georgetown College women's basketball had flashes of running away with games, but need some fierce defense to walk away with the first win over the season. In the Habitat Classic, No. 4 Tigers (1-0) handed Taylor University (0-3) an 88-75 setback.

"It was good to see us coming together in the first game, but at times it was evident it was a first game," said GC coach Andrea McCloskey. "We were a bit out of rhythm with our shooting and at times in the second half the missing block out assignments which is extremely important to me."

The Trojans whittled down a 17-point deficit to nine. GC rallied, highlighted by a Kourtney Tyra to Andrea Howard three and next possession the reverse for a 21-point advantage.

The tandem led all-scorers. Howard had 30 and Tyra 23. Lizza Jonas finished with 12 points, six rebounds, three steals and four assists as the senior trio started strong.

Georgetown returns to action 4 pm Saturday against College of Ozarks (4-0).
