Men's Basketball - Thu, Jan. 30, 2014
Georgetown College men's basketball has been near perfect at home (13-1), while struggling on the road (2-4). However Thursday, the No. 18 Tigers (16-5, 7-3 MSC) exacted revenge for their only loss in Davis-Reid Alumni Gym. GC notched a 100-96 victory over No. 14 University of Rio Grande in Newt Oliver Arena. It is the second straight win on the road, as Georgetown has been in an important Mid-South Conference four-game trip outside of Davis-Reid Alumni Gym.
"Coming together and learning to play on the road is what we hoped to gain on this trip," said GC coach Chris Briggs. "We had a close loss to start this swing, erased a double-digit deficit late for a win and then came here, got a lead and didn't fold when it got close.
"We are showing mental toughness and now we need to finish this out in a place we have had difficulty playing."
Georgetown finishes with a 4 pm Saturday showdown at Shawnee State.
Monty Wilson led all-scorers with 31 points, while five Tigers finished in double figures.
Noah Cottrill and Dominique Hagans had 14 points each. Jaylan Daniel finished with 12 and Deondre McWhorter 11.
