Typically the idea for spring sports is to travel south when the season opens and the winter months may linger a bit in Kentucky. However, Wednesday's winter storm Pax also went south, altering several Georgetown College athletic teams' schedules.

The men's and women's teams were making a sweep to Waleska, Ga. – just outside of Atlanta – and Cleveland, Tenn. to play Reinhardt and Lee University in some final tune-ups before the first Mid-South Conference matches.

However, Pax swept through and has force both sets of matches to be canceled.

"It has been hard this year," said GC coach Jessica Cunningham. "We opened with some indoor matches, but now with this cancelation my women's team will not have played a true match outdoors since the fall and a match since first of February. My men's team has played twice indoors this February, but again is missing that chance to be outside. Now we hope for some good weather next week so we can get outside before we travel to Campbellsville on Feb. 26."

The Tigers follow that up by opening home conference play against Lindsey Wilson College on March 7.

"It is a hazard of spring sports in this area, but you always hope that going south, especially to Atlanta, is a safe bet that you will get to play and play outside," Cunningham said.
