Georgetown College football wrapped up another great season with its banquet recently. The team went 7-4 and advanced to the NAIA Football Championship Series Opening Round for the fourth straight season. Seniors Zach Sowder and Brock Messina headlined the event, much as they did the 2013 season.
Sowder, who is in the Top 10 in seven career and one single-season records, earned the Tiger Offensive Award. The senior led the team in rushing this past season.
Messina, who is in the Top 10 in four career and three single-season records, earned the Tiger Defensive Award. The senior was the team's leading tackler for 2013. He also received the Tiger Hammer award for all his great hits.
Junior Ben Patenaude was honored with the Tiger Special Teams Award for his attitude of playing this play.
Dane Everett, Devon Turner, Marcus Cosby, Cody Elbert, Mitchell Wessel and Ian Nadolny all earned the Tiger Scout Team.
Coach Bill Cronin also likes to give out several special honors throughout the banquet.
For his perseverance, Jacob Buchanan received the 2013 Kevin Hensinger Award. Patrick Dougherty was given the Bob Hinton Award in recognition of his work in the classroom as well as on the field.
The Earl Hundley Award for Team Leadership went to Sean Kratchman.
The Joe Johnson Award for Coach-Ability went to Grant Keller.
The Shorty Price Award for Tiger Attitude went to Aaron Wilson.
The Tom Seals Award for Overcoming Adversity went to Tyler Higgins.
Cronin also used the banquet to recognize his all-conference and nationally acclaimed players.
Messina was named All-American and Mid-South Conference East Defensive Player of the Year.
