Georgetown men's golf had four of its scoring players finish in the Top 8 of round one Monday in the team's opening tournament in Florida at the World Golf Village. The Tigers were led by Madison Huegel's 79. The freshman from Georgia finished tied for fifth.

"It's been a crazy preseason for us and after day one I'm pretty happy with how our guys were playing," said GC coach Flash Williams. "At the end of the fall season we were shooting around 321 average as a team. To open the spring season, after not really being able to practice much outside, we shot a 326.

"Madison played very well and I was glad to see him in the Top 5. All our scorers were in the Top 10."

Snow and ice have prevented Williams and his team from spending much time on the links in the preseason, but is just sitting three shots back of second after day one.

Jacob Flora shot an 81 for solo possession of seventh, while Dylan Underwood and Brett Doggett tied for eighth at 83.

William Carey placed three of its four scoring athletes in the top possessions. Kenton Stamps led with a 74. His teammates Michael Maley (76) and Kyle Curtis (77) were right behind him. As a team, WC shot a 314.

The Tigers were just on the heels of Shenandoah University's opening round 323. Wes Licklider sat fourth with a 78 and his teammate Erik Hale tied Huegel for fifth. Their other two scorers, Zach Ramey and Adam Flees tied for eighth with Doggett and Underwood.
