Women's Basketball - Fri, Feb. 28, 2014

Another first half slow start but the No. 8 Georgetown College women's basketball team in an early hole. The Tigers (19-7, 13-5 MSC) made furious comeback, but fell to No. 23 University of the Cumberlands (19-9, 13-5), 61-60.

Jessica Foster and Teonia McCune led the charge Thursday as the Tigers tried to rally in Williamsburg, Ky. The post players each had 12 points, while McCune added five blocks and eight rebounds.

By way of beating Campbellsville University earlier this season, GC will finish second in the MSC standings and play whoever finishes seventh after Saturday's showdowns. If the season ended today, Georgetown would once again face Bluefield College (14-13, 7-10). However, eight teams still have one conference game remaining and three teams could come into a tie for seventh. If Bluefield and University of Rio Grande should loss Saturday and University of Pikeville win they would all be 7-11. It would then enter head-to-head play and other tiebreaking standards. If Rio and Bluefield win, they would both be sitting at 8-10. It appears from there the tiebreaker would come down to head-to-head with Lindsey Wilson. Rio split with LWC, while the Blue Raiders swept the Rams. This means Rio would finish sixth and Bluefield seventh.
