Georgetown College's Monty Wilson and Deondre McWhorter earned Mid-South Conference honors as released by the league off Wednesday. Wilson took his second first-team all-conference honor, while McWhorter was named to the second team.
Russ Middleton earned his fourth MSC All-Academic honor, which requires athletes to be of sophomore or higher standing with a 3.25 grade point average or better.
Wilson easily leads the conference in points per game average at 23.5. The next closest to that is MSC Player of the Year Bruce Reed's 18.3 ppg. The Illinois native is seventh in the conference in field goal percentage with 44.9. He has taken almost a hundred more shots, making almost 30 more, than those ahead of him in that category. Reed is again the closest in attempts – 301 – and makes 164. Wilson is 173-of-385.
Wilson is fourth in the league in free throw percentage, hitting 80.1 percent. However, he has taken an overwhelming amount. His 313 is 110 more than the next closest, and he's hit 253 – also nearly 100 more than the second best in the league.
McWhorter is seventh on the free throw list with 76.1 percent, which is impressive for the low-post player. The sophomore is second in the conference in rebounds per game – 8.17 and in double-doubles with 11 this season. UPike's Chris Cantino is the only one with more double-doubles with 12.
Georgetown begins postseason play today at 7 pm against Bluefield College. An audio broadcast can be followed here through GC's iHigh site, while video of the game can be followed through tournament host Cumberland University here.
