Georgetown College men's basketball heads to its 23rd straight national tournament and will open play Wednesday, March 19 at 9:45 pm EST against Wayland Baptist (23-10). This is the first ever meeting between these two schools.

The No. 16 Tigers (22-10) got a 14 seed and are in the Duer Bracket. Other teams in that bracket are: No. 8 Vanguard (27-6), Life University (19-14), Westminster (19-12), No. 11 Benedictine (22-8), Philander Smith (20-11) and No. 3 William Carey (27-2).

Wayland has not been to the national tournament since 2008, but are making the team's 15th all-time appearance. The Pioneers have won five of their last six games this season. They average 90 points per game and win by an average of 12.3. They shoot 48 percent from the field, 37.4 from three-point range. Wayland is a force on the glass as a team – averaging 44.6 rebounds a game to its opponent's 37.0.

Georgetown averages 89.91 points per game and wins by an average margin of eight points. The Tigers shoot 46.4 from the field – 35.5 percent from deep. As a team, GC grabs 43 rebounds per game.

Wayland is ranked in the Top 10 of eight statistical categories – first in defensive rebounds per game (30.758), first in total total rebound offense (1,473), third total rebounds per game (44.636), fifth total scoring offense (2,970), sixth total blocks (133), sixth scoring margin (7.606), eighth total assists (529) and eighth blocks per game (4.030).

GC is ranked in the Top 10 of seven statistical categories – second in total blocks (149), third in blocks per game (4.656), third in total total rebound offense (1,401), sixth total rebounds per game (43.781), seventh total scoring offense (2,877), eighth free throw percentage (73.4) and eighth defensive rebounds per game (29.781).

The Pioneers are led by Markus Monroe's 21.3 points per game. Barry Johnson (15.1) and Royal Crouch (10.5) also average double figures. Monroe averages 6.1 rebounds per game. Kelly Lawson also averages 6.1 and Plamen Hristov averages 6.0.

Monty Wilson leads the Tigers with 23.1 ppg. Noah Cottrill chips in with 13.3 and Deondre McWhorter averages 12.2. McWhorter grabs 8.2 rpg.
