Jessica Claxton controlled the No. 9 Lindsey Wilson College offense, but it was not enough in game two Saturday in Columbia, Ky. Jordan Hood pitched a one-hit shutout as the Blue Raiders (22-2, 8-0 MSC) won 2-0.
The Tigers (14-8, 9-5) opened the game with a lead-off single by Chelsea Riney, but that was all the base runners for Georgetown until the top of the fifth. Marissa Massie reached when Hood hit her with a pitch.
LWC did not have much better luck against Claxton. They had eight hits, but managed just two runs in the pitcher's duel. Almost half of those hits came in the bottom of the second. Bailey Mize started with a solo homerun. Goedde followed with a single and eventually reached third, but Claxton worked out of the inning with just the one run allowed. The Blue Raiders had three hits and stranded three that inning.
The only other multi-hit inning came in the bottom of the fifth. LWC started with a double and scored on a double. Claxton got the next two batters out to again curtail the damage.
Georgetown returns to action 2 pm Wednesday hosting University of Pikeville for a doubleheader at the Tiger Softball Complex.
