Danville, Ky. – Georgetown College softball took an early lead in the winner's bracket final of the Mid-South Conference tournament, but could not hold off Cumberland University. The Bulldogs hit a two-run home run for a 3-2 win. The Tigers (34-13) fall into the loser's bracket final 4 pm Saturday against the winner of Lindsey Wilson College-Campbellsville University game.
A double steal on a pass ball gave GC its first run and an inning later senior Chelsea Riney hit her third home run ever to put the Tigers up 2-0. It appeared enough until the Bulldogs scored one in the fourth and the two in the fifth.
Georgetown had a one out rally with back-to-back singles from Marissa Massie and Taylor Shaw, but a foul out and an unassisted ground out ended the attempt to tie or win the game in the bottom of the seventh.
