Women's Cross Country - Tue, Sep. 6, 2016

Georgetown College women's cross country opened the 2016 season this past Friday evening in the Berea/Centre College Cross Country Classic. Leading the way for the Tigers was freshman Julia Manning.

The Richmond, Ky. native was the first NAIA runner to finish, taking fourth behind three Centre College runners. She ran the two-mile course in 12 minutes and 20 seconds earning her the first Mid-South Conference Runner of the Week honors.

"Julia ran a great race and really set the tone for us," said GC coach Luke Garnett. "When you have no seniors and graduated one of your programs best runners in Tayler Godar, you wonder what that first race will look like.

"Julia has been putting in great work at practice and it was a very exciting start to her career and for this team. I can't wait to see what she and this team do."

Georgetown is back on the course this weekend in Bowling Green, Ky. in the Mid-South Conference Championship Preview. The teams will get a chance to run the course in Phil Moore Park where the fall championships will be held on Nov. 5.
