Coach Chris Briggs has had a lot of wins at Georgetown College, 150 to be exact. His team gave him the milestone win in big fashion Thursday. The No. 2 Tigers (15-1) had five players in double figures as they rolled to a 100-52 win over visiting Ohio State University – Lima.
GC started on a 10-0 run and the Barons got it back to single digits only a few times early in the first half. Chris Coffey hit a shot with 11:28 left for an 11-point Tiger edge and it never got closer. The sophomore also had several alley-oop highlight dunks to excite the quaint crowd on hand during a snowy afternoon game.
Quan Poindexter returned from injury with a splash, scoring 14 points in 20-plus minutes to lead the way. Trent Gilbert added 13, while Coffey had 12. Both Edson Avila and Troy Steward had 10.
The team nearly shot 60 percent in the first half, 23-of-39, but cooled off a bit in the second to finish at just above 50 percent for the game, 40-77.
The Tigers welcome in Life University on Monday, getting back into Mid-South Conference action. Tip is set for 4 pm in Davis-Reid Alumni Gym. The women will also play Life, opening up the doubleheader at 2 pm.
