Men's Basketball - Mon, Jan. 9, 2017
Georgetown College men's basketball had to scrap early and outlast a feisty Life University team Monday at Davis-Reid Alumni Gym. The two teams came in undefeated in Mid-South Conference play. The 84-74 win puts No. 2 Tigers (16-, 4-0) in the driver's seat for now. The Running Eagles fall to 8-9 and 5-1 in the conference.
Chris Coffey showed his range, stepping out for jumpers several times on his way to 21 points and 11 rebounds. He was 7-of-9 from the floor and 7-of-7 from the free throw line.
GC trailed early, but never more than one possession. Zach Landis hit a jumper to put the visitors up 19-18. The Tigers responded with a 14-2 run and never trailed again.
LU was not going quietly, whittling that 11-point deficit down to two early in the second half. Georgetown responded with a 20-9 run and held on as it never got closer than two possessions again.
Troy Steward had 19 points, Darion Burns 14 and Trent Gilbert 10. Life's Dalarian Williams led all scorers with 30.
Georgetown returns to action 8 pm Thursday at Campbellsville University.
