Men's Basketball - Sat, Feb. 4, 2017

Georgetown College men's basketball woes continue at Frank and Janis Waller Gymnasium. The home of the Shawnee State University Bears has been very unkind to the Tigers since SSU joined the Mid-South Conference in 2010-11.

In seven trips to Portsmouth, Ohio, GC is 2-5. With seven minutes left Saturday, it appeared the No. 3 team in the country might eek it out. However, SSU went on a 12-6 run to close the game and take a fifth win in front of the home crowd.

This drops the Tigers to 21-3 and 8-2 in the league, while the Bears improve to 8-15 and win their first game in the MSC, 1-9.

Chris Coffey led Georgetown with 17 points and Trent Gilbert got hot in the second half with 16 points – four threes and four free throws. Troy Steward added 13 points and Eljay Cowherd had 12.

SSU was led by Jayllen Carter's 24 points, while Frederick Moore had 16. SSU hit 11 threes. GC struggled from the line at 18-of-28 and allowed 12 offensive rebounds.

GC is back in action 8 pm Thursday at Life University.
