Women's Tennis - Wed, Feb. 22, 2017

Georgetown College women's tennis continues to roll on this spring with a blanking of a second straight opponent. The Tigers (3-0) made quick work over Union College Wednesday afternoon. A couple of matches had some exciting moments, but in the end it was all GC.

In doubles, freshman Madelyn Kauffman and sophomore Amanda Moore held off Ljiljana Pajcin and Erika Broady for a 9-7 win. Juniors Natalie Fiepke and Shae Henry wasted no time and dropped no games in an 8-0 victory over Kacie Dotson and Brittany Lamb.

Coach Jessica Cunningham then tested some of her youthful bunch in singles.

Freshman Lauren Fazenbaker seemed to be rolling to her second win at the top seed, when Pajcin made it close in the second set. Fazenbaker was not rattled, though, winning 6-1, 7-5.

Moore battled for a 7-5 win in set one, but Carla Delgudo mounted a strong attack to force a tiebreaker set – first to 10. Moore got behind 2-0, but rally to scored 10 of the final 14 points and secure the perfect win for the women.

Henry rolled 6-2, 6-1 over Lamb, while Fiepke battled for a 7-6 first set win and then cruised in the second for a win over Dotson.

Georgetown is back in action 2 pm March 3 at Montreat College.
