Men's Basketball - Fri, Mar. 3, 2017

The Mid-South Conference kicked off the men's basketball postseason with a banquet Thursday evening in Frankfort's Capital City Plaza Hotel. The student-athletes and coaches of eight teams were honored for a great season – four teams finished ranked in the Top 25 and a fifth was receiving votes.

At the banquet, GC's Nicolas Da Villalobos Paz, Chase Gardner and Austin Keene were recognized for being sophomores or higher with at least a 3.25 grade point average.

Then Darion Burns and Chris Coffey earned second-team all-conference, while Quan Poindexter and Troy Steward were first team.

Burns is currently averaging 8.5 points per game, 3.7 rebounds per game and 3.7 assists per game. He's ranked fourth nationally for assist to turnover ratio.

Coffey averages 10.5 ppg and 9.6 rpg. He is ranked fourth in offensive rebounds per game, seventh in total rebounds per game, eighth in total rebounds, 17th in blocks per game, 18th in total blocks and 21st defensive rebounds per game.

Poindexter's 14.6 ppg is second on the team and his 52.4 field goal percentage is ranked 13th.

Steward leads the Tigers with 16.5 ppg.

Georgetown College men will enter the tournament, quarterfinals starting Friday, against Campbellsville University. Tip is set for 6 pm.
