Women's Tennis - Fri, Apr. 7, 2017

Georgetown College women's tennis team got behind early against Mid-South Conference foe Cumberland University, but made a furious rally in singles Friday. The Tigers trailed 4-2 with a battle being waged at second seed and the fifth and sixth seeded courts just starting.

Natalie Fiepke and Madelyn Kauffman were able to win their courts – 6-2, 6-4 and 6-4, 6-1 respectively – unfortunately Lauren Fazenbaker could not overtake her opponent on court two. Marta Ferrando Pea held on 6-4, 6-3 to secure the win for the visiting Phoenix.

Fiepke and doubles partner Shae Henry tallied a point for Georgetown in the doubles round, beating Ainhoa Garjio Garrido and Franki Jecker 8-5. Jecker also suffered defeat at the hands of GC's Amanda Moore. The sophomore won in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2 to keep the team in contention.

It is only the team's fourth loss of the spring as the women are 12-4, all four have been to teams ranked or receiving votes. Georgetown has also played three other ranked opponents and beaten all three of those.

The Tigers return to action 1 pm Sunday hosting Tennessee Wesleyan University.
