Georgetown College baseball will give fans a glance into the upcoming season with the annual intrasquad scrimmage. The returners will battle the newcomers 1 pm Saturday at Robert N. Wilson Field.

"It's always exciting to start our season this way," said GC coach Micah Baumfeld. "We get a chance to break the ice and for teammates to enjoy a game before we really delve into fall practices."

The Tigers were 32-19 a season ago. For the returners, Kyle Fieger, Nick Giambolvo, Ryan Garner, Shamon Moss, Brandon Benson, Sean Williams and Rodnee Little will highlight the team.

Newcomers will be a mix of rookies and transfers that have in the past always made it interesting.

"It's a great game," Baumfeld said. "People hear Returners vs. Newcomers and think a lot of college experience battling high school guys, but with the transfers thrown in to the newcomers' team it adds a lot of guys who are top prospects from NCAA Division I to junior college teams. This year's game might be the best we've had in recent years and if I'm not mistaken the newcomers have won a couple during my tenor."

Baumfeld enters his seventh season with a 207-102 record, 90-42 in the Mid-South Conference. He is 80th on the active win list for college baseball coaches and only three above him are entering their seventh season or less as well. Most in the Top 80 have been coaching a decade or more.
