Women's Soccer - Sun, Aug. 27, 2017

Georgetown College women's soccer took its first step toward its postseason goals Saturday with a 3-0 win over Union College (0-2). The Tigers (1-0) traveled to Barbourville and waited through almost an hour delay before starting the 2017 season with a bang.

In the 23rd minute, junior Skye Zimmer scored the winning goal. She was not done, adding the first cushion goal in the 36th minute.

Senior Lindsey Dunn tallied her first goal of the season with a beautiful rip in the 58th minute. She helped push the attack all night, taking a total of five shots, three on goal. Zimmer was beneficiary of intense pace, taking a second or third strike following her teammates' approach. The junior was an eye-popping 2-for-3 on shots, all three on frame.

GC's defense held the Bulldogs scoreless, limiting them to just four total shots – two on goal. Freshmen goalies Sarah Slusher and Megan Martin split time between the pipes, recording one save each.

The Tigers are back in action 6 pm Monday with the home-opener against Freed-Hardeman University. Georgetown's men will open their season with an 8 pm game at Toyota Stadium also against FHU.
