In the past 12 hours Hurricane Irma has been upgraded to a category 5 storm system and has potential to be the most damaging hurricane in recent years.

"With new facts and predictions coming to light late in the day yesterday, all parties have decided it is in the best interest to cancel Saturday's football game with Southeastern University," said GC director of athletics Brian Evans. "(SEU AD) Drew Watson and I talked at length and the best thing for their students right now is to focus on what Florida officials are asking everyone to do as they enter a state of emergency.

"While both of us were very excited for the potential to see our two teams match up in this Top 20 showdown, safety and wellbeing comes first. Our thoughts and prayers are with all Floridians at this time."

Neither team has a spot where it is feasible to make up this game. Georgetown (1-0) will continue to train and prepare as another Mid-South Conference Sun Division opponent is set to come this way in what will now be the home-opener on Sept. 16. The No. 19 Tigers will battle Point University. Kickoff is set for 1:30 pm.
