No. 18 Georgetown College started off 2010 with a 77-54 win over No. 21 Shorter College on Saturday in Alumni Gymnasium.

The Tigers, 11-2 on the year, were balanced in scoring with five players in double figures, including a game high 17 for senior Hollis Giles.  Fellow senior Kyle Saxton added 14 and sophomore Vic Moses finished with the game's lone double-double with 12 points and ten rebounds.

The first half was close for a while but the Tigers put together a 13-0 run late in the first half to give them a 34-25 lead at the break and they never looked back.

"This was a big win and a much-needed win," said head coach Happy Osborne.  "We've been pretty banged up and have several players out right now so it was good to see our guys pick up their level of play to compensate."

The Hawks, who outrebounded the Tigers 34 to 33, fell to 10-2.  They were led by Jerrenda Wheeler and Ziyadah Carter with ten each.

The Tigers are back in action on Thursday when they host St. Xavier (Ill.).  Tipoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
