Decatur, Ala. - Georgetown College opened the NAIA National Tournament with a 6-1 loss to Simon Fraser on Thursday.opened the NAIA National Tournament with a 6-1 loss to Simon Fraser on Thursday.
The Clan's Meaghan Cumpstone hit a solo homerun in the top of the first to put Simon Fraser on the board. Georgetown answered at the bottom of the inning when sophomore Rachel Johnson scored on a wild throw after stealing third.
Simon Fraser followed with a three-run second inning after two Clans reached base on a series of mistakes and a double by third baseman Carly Moir.
Next up for Georgetown in the pool play round is sixth-seeded Oklahoma Baptist. The first pitch is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. (EST). Live stats are available by visiting www.naia.org and choosing softball and then the national tournament link.
