Georgetown College Tiger Softball enters the NAIA Region XI Tournament as the third-seed and will face sixth seed Union University in their first game to be played on Wednesday, May 7 at 3:00 p.m. The winner will advance to play second-seeded Martin Methodist at 7:00 p.m., while the loser will play on Thursday at 3:00 p.m.

The Tigers bring an overall record of 34-13 to the tournament and won the Mid-South Conference regular season title. They have enjoyed a national ranking nearly all season, listed at No. 23 in last week's poll. Georgetown is led by seniors Jennifer Tarplee, MSC Co-Player of the Year, (shortstop, Cincinnati, Oh.) and Kara Renfro (centerfielder, Paint Lick, Ky.). Tarplee is batting .414 in 168 attempts and Renfro is .357 coming into the tournament. Freshman Rachel Johnson (designated player, Georgetown, Ky.) is also at the top in batting averages with a .367 in 142 trips to the plate.

On the mound, head coach Thomas Thornton will look to sophomore Brittany Gunther (Louisville, Ky.) and junior Samantha Barmore (Smithfield, Ky.). Relief pitcher Victoria Witt (junior, Irvine, Ky. ) will back them up and leads the team with five saves this season.

The double-elimination tournament will be held May 7-9 at Morgan Stadium-Associates Field in Henderson, Tn. Freed-Hardeman University is the host school.
