Savannah, Ga. - No. 7 Georgetown College started the year on a high note, winning two matches in the Savannah College of Art & Design Invitational Tournament on Friday.

Savannah, Ga. - No. 7 Georgetown College started the year on a high note, winning two matches in the Savannah College of Art & Design Invitational Tournament on Friday.

The Tigers won 3-0 over Ursuline (Ohio) in the first match of the day by scores of 25-11, 25-15, 25-18.  Seniors outside hitters Erica Janszen and Cassie Moore led in kills, with 13 each, while libero Amy Barmore, also a senior, topped the defensive effort, tallying 16 digs in the match. Kristin Meister added four aces.

First year head coach Nick Griffin's squad earned a second win after beating the University of Texas-Brownsville 3-1.  The Tigers lost the first game 25-21 and went on to win the next three 25-16, 25-19, 25-23, including a come from behind finish in the last game.  Moore's hitting again led the team, this time with 12 kills.  Freshman setter Amanda Philpot showed poise with her new team, dishing out 34 assists on the night.

Next up for the Tigers is the University of Mobile at 1:00 p.m. followed by a date with the home school, SCAD at 5:00 p.m.
