Georgetown College Track and Field competed in the
Mid-South Conference Championships held on April 26 at the University of the
Cumberlands in Williamsburg, Ky. Overall, the women placed fourth
while the men finished fifth.
Individually, there were many highlights.
Sophomore Britney Chesser took third in the 5,000 and won the 10,000 with a
new MSC record of 40:37.
John Micheal Mayo won the javelin, setting a new
conference record along the way of 58.62. Senior Derek Sword followed
Mayo, while brother, Jacob Sword came in third. Tiger Ryan Maynard
finished sixth. Both Mayo and Derek Sword have qualified as individuals for
the NAIA National Championships to be held next month in St. Louis, Mo.
In the high jump event, both the female and male
champions were from Georgetown in Allie Bertke and Daniel Grubb.
Shelley Markham brought home two third place
finishes in the javelin and the discus.
