Women's Soccer - Wed, Sep. 8, 2010
Georgetown College sweeps women's soccer awards following its second 4-1 victory in as many tries.
Caitlin Williams' three goals earned her Offensive Player of the Week and goalie Brooke Terrell picked up Defensive Player of the Week.
The Tigers (2-0) defeated Cumberland University (Tenn.) on Saturday, behind Williams' hat trick.
Her first goal came in the 35th minute to give GC a 1-0 edge heading into the break. It was from 25-yards out and was unassisted.
Sophomore Kelsey Ach set up Williams' second goal in the 61st minute. It was a crack from about 18-yards out that found the back of the net. She would finish the day with a shot inside the last minute to give GC the final margin of victory. Before Saturday's game, Williams had not scored a goal in her college career.
With that effort, Williams vaults to the conference lead in points (7), goals per game (1.5), and is tied for the league-lead in goals scored (3).
Terrell, who played 67 minutes Saturday, pitched her second scoreless effort. In two games and 100-plus minutes, the sophomore keeper has not surrendered a goal. She had four saves against Cumberland, including two at the very start of the match, and she recorded two against Brescia the previous week.
