Georgetown College's volleyball team rolled into the Rumpke Invitational final Saturday afternoon in Georgetown for the showdown it wanted all weekend.
The No. 18 Tigers (8-1, 1-0 Mid-South Conference) wanted a shot at No. 13 Embry-Riddle University. The Eagles (11-1) also rolled through the pool-play portion of the tournament, setting the stage for a four-game thriller. GC put up a fight, but lost its first match all season, 25-18, 20-25, 25-18, 31-29.
The Tigers staved off defeat four times in the fourth game, but at 30-29 Embry-Riddle finally put the match away.
Georgetown had not lost a game all weekend in defeating Milligan College, Cornerstone University and Indiana University Southeast. With those three wins, the Tigers move to three match-wins from notching 1,000 in their 30-year history.
Lauren Meister and Kelsey Luckett were named to the all-tournament team for the Tigers.
Next up is conference rival Campbellsville University Wednesday at 7 p.m.at Davis-Reid Alumni Gym.
