No. 16 Georgetown College (9-1, 2-0 Mid-South Conference) defeated rival Campbellsville (6-2, 2-1) in straight-games to move one win closer to the 1,000-match mark. The GC Tigers won 25-23, 25-22, 25-12 Wednesday in Georgetown.
Campbellsville took an early lead in the second game, but Georgetown stormed back and continued to roll in the final game.
"It was good to come out and get a win against our biggest rival," GC coach Nick Griffin said. "Our inexperience came out in the first game; then we settled down and played our game. We had some people step up and it was a total team effort."
GC returns to action this weekend in the Olivet Nazarene Holiday Inn Express Tournament, where it will face four ranked opponents and could pick up the historic 1,000th win Friday in the evening match against the host school, which is also where Griffin graduated from and coached at before coming to Georgetown last year.
The Tigers are currently sitting at 998 victories in their 30-year history.
