Georgetown College men's soccer team (1-6, 0-1 Mid-South Conference) was able to dig out of an early hole against new MSC foe Shawnee State, but could not overcome it in the end.

The Tigers faced a 2-0 deficit in the first 10 minutes Saturday in Georgetown, but at the end of the first it was 3-3 all.

Late in the second half, though, the Bears (3-2, 1-0) found the back of the net for the 4-3 win.

Matt Hess got Georgetown on the board midway through the first half to trim the deficit to 2-1. Shawnee scored again for a 3-1 lead, but then Hess scored his second goal for a 3-2 mark. Wes Jones scored the Tigers third goal for a tie game heading into the final 45.

SSU's Chad Johnston scored his second goal off an assist by Luke Purpero. That tandem proved to be the difference, as each had two goals. Purpero assisted both of Johnston's goal, and Johnston assisted one of Purpero's.
