Women's Soccer - Wed, Sep. 22, 2010
Georgetown College women's soccer team battled Union College in a high-paced match Wednesday in Georgetown. The offenses emerged early before settling into a defensive shell as the Bulldogs (5-4) pulled off the 2-1 road victory.
The Tigers (5-2) got behind early when Union's Ashley Hall found a crease in the back line of the Georgetown defense. The Bulldogs forward hit a passing shot into the lower left hand corner for a 1-0 advantage not even four minutes into the game.
Just shy of 10 minutes later freshman Kelsey Ach finished a rebound shot off of a cornerkick to tie the game at one all.
However, in the 21st minute, Hall found the back of the net again on an open goal for the decisive score. Georgetown's goalie Brooke Terrell came off her line to get a ball near the 18, it bounced away from her and at the feet of Hall.
The half would continue in a back and forth seesaw battle, but the Tigers came out on fire in the second half. Seventeen of the teams 21 shots on goal were taken in the final 45 minutes of action. Multiple times GC had opportunities, but Union goalie Patricia Nardy turned them all away.
The Tigers return to action against Mid-South Conference foe University of the Cumberlands Saturday in Williamsburg.
