Georgetown College men's and women's basketball teams are getting national recognition.
The men, which went to a 20th straight national tournament in 2009-10 season, were picked No. 9 in the preseason Coaches Poll. The women were receiving votes.
On the men's side, four other Mid-South Conference teams were in the Top 25 or receiving votes. Campbellsville came it at No. 17, while St. Catharine, University of the Cumberlands and Pikeville were receiving votes.
The Tigers finished 26-7 a season ago and MSC Tournament champions. Veteran coach Happy Osborne returns several key players from that team and added a few others he hopes will replace the graduation of Kyle Saxton and Hollis Giles.
On the women's side, four other conference teams garnered votes in the poll. Campbellsville was picked No. 4, University of the Cumberlands No. 12, Lindsey Wilson No. 18 and newcomer Shawnee State was receiving votes.
Georgetown College women open regular season play Nov. 5-6 in the Habitat Classic at Davis-Reid Alumni Gym, while the men open Nov. 7 hosting Davis & Elkins.
