Two top 15 teams tangled Thursday in Georgetown, and for the third time this season the Tigers came out victorious. The No. 7 GC (20-2, 9-1 Mid-South Conference) handed No. 13 St. Catharine (13-5, 7-2) a 73-61 defeat in the Davis-Reid Alumni Gym.
The Patriots pulled within two points several times in the second half, but Georgetown weathered the storms to stay perfect at home 14-0 this season.
Tyrone Shelley led the offense with 15 points, but when he fouled out with five minutes remaining, Vincent Crutcher and Eddie Gray began to find a rhythm. Crutcher scored 13, Gray 12 and Rodney Haddix supplied a spark with 11 points.
SCC was led by Kashiff Carr's 19 points and Ervin Williams 10.
Georgetown returns to action Saturday at 4 p.m. against archrival Campbellsville University.
