Georgetown College women's tennis finished the season ranked 22nd this past spring and in the 2011 preseason poll released Tuesday were No. 25.
"Being ranked in the preseason top 25 is a great honor," said Tiger coach Lane Orttenburger. "It shows that Georgetown Tennis is getting respect on a national level. Now we have to go out and earn that respect with our play."
The women officially open the season Friday against Orttenburger's alma mater Eastern Kentucky University.
Lindsey Wilson College was the only other Mid-South Conference team in the Top 25 rankings, coming in at No. 13. Georgetown received 76 points, while the Blue Raiders got 187. University of the Cumberlands was receiving votes, giving the MSC fifty percent of its teams among the conversation for Top 25.
Defending champions Fresno Pacific University was the overall favorite to win again, picking up 310 points. Rounding out the Top 5 were: Auburn University Montgomery, Point Loma Nazarene University, Vanguard University and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
