Women's Basketball - Thu, Mar. 3, 2011
Georgetown College women's basketball enjoyed the Mid-South Conference banquet Wednesday night as the prelude to the tournament which tips off at 2 p.m. Thursday. Four quarterfinal games will be played at the Frankfort Civic Center with Georgetown and Lindsey Wilson closing out the first day of action at 8 p.m.
But all the women and coaches put on their Sunday best and enjoyed a meal together as players and coaches were recognized for their regular season body of work.
The Tigers had eight athletes earn Academic All-Conference, a tie for the most from one team in this category as Campbellsville University also had eight.
Gina Beining, Mandi Boykin, Emily Drees, Devon Golden, Jessica Waddle, Mikkah Rogers, Jess Slonim and Lindsey Fultz all maintain a 3.25 or better grade point average to receive the honor.
Beining was also recognized by the conference athletic directors as the MSC Champion of Character.
Kourtney Tyra was named to the All-Conference team for the second year in a row.
Susan Johnson was honored during the banquet, which will be her final one as head coach at Georgetown. A list of her numerous accomplishments were read and a rousing ovation was given to the 32-year veteran on the Tiger sidelines.
Georgetown was the No. 3 seed upset by the No. 6 seed Pikeville in the 2010 season. Now as the No. 6 seed against No. 3 Lindsey Wilson, they will be hoping for a similar result in this game this season.
