Baseball swept University of Rio Grande this past weekend, pulling off back-to-back 2-1 wins Friday and then rolling 5-0 and 9-1 in a pair on Saturday.
Game one needed an extra inning when it was all knotted at one through seven. The Tigers (20-14, 10-6) pushed across the winning run and then Chad Richie held on for the save in the bottom of the eighth despite a threat when the RedStorm (19-16, 7-7) got two men on base.
Chris Wood led in hitting in the first game, getting three of the team's four hits. He was 3-of-4 with an RBI. Tyler Fisher picked up the other hit, going 1-of-3, while Randy Guite collected the other RBI. Tanner Baldwin and Ellis Bowen each scored a run.
Jason McGinnis pitched a gem of a game, holding a no hitter through six innings. In the bottom of the seventh with a 1-0 lead, he gave up two hits and allowed one run. He finished with six strikeouts and three walks before handing the ball over to Richie for the save, who allowed one hit with one walk and one strikeout.
In the second game, the Tigers scored in the top of the sixth to break up a 1-1 game and it was all Chase Ballinger would need. Ballinger through seven innings; gave up two hits for one run with five strikeouts and a walk.
K.C. Massie took to the hill Saturday in game one and pitched a complete game shutout, scattering five hits with three strikeouts and four walks. He got offensive support from a variety of players, led by Guite's 2-of-2 day with two RBI.
Wood was 1-of-3 with two runs scored, while Thackston and Tyler Fisher were 1-of-3 with an RBI. Tyler Hatfield went 1-of-1 and Jordan Burk ran for him to score a run, while Baldwin also went 1-of-1 with two runs scored.
In the final game of the weekend, GC's bats came to life for 11 hits. Wood collected three of those in four at bats, while Guite was 2-of-4 for the only other Tiger with multiple hits.
Wood drove in two and scored once and Guite had one RBI and one run scored. Fisher, Back, Bowen, Baldwin and Brian Smith each had a hit. Bowen, Baldwin and Fisher all scored two runs. Pete Thackston notched two RBI, while Guite and Smith picked up an RBI apiece.
Joe Devine got the complete game win with one hit, one run and four walks.
Georgetown stays on the road to play defending NAIA national champions Cumberland University Tuesday.
