Jason McGinnis took a no-hitter into the seventh inning against preseason No. 25 University of Rio Grande this past Friday, earning him Mid-South Conference's Pitcher of the Week honors.
The junior gave up two hits and a run in the bottom of the seventh as the Tigers (20-14, 10-6 MSC West) needed an extra inning to pull out the 2-1 win.
GC got the run in the top of the eighth; giving McGinnis the win and Chad Richie stepped in and shut the door to pick up the save in the bottom of the eighth.
This was McGinnis' third win of the season with a 2.60 earned run average. His ERA is 11th in the MSC and his 35 strikeouts is sixth.
McGinnis is the first Tiger pitcher recognized this season by the conference for his efforts on the mound.
Georgetown's pitching staff as a whole has a 2.382, ranking them 11th nationally. McGinnis is 28th nationally in total innings pitched (52) and 33rd in innings pitched per game 6.5.
The Tigers are back in action Tuesday against No. 1 and defending national champion Cumberlands University.
