Five Georgetown College basketball players were recently recognized for their work off the floor and in the classroom.
Dillon Boggs, Emily Drees, Mandi Boykin, Jessica Waddle and Gina Beining earned a 3.5 grade point average or higher this past year and were recently named to the 2011 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athletes list.
Boggs, who maintains a 3.5 with a major in GC's business department, was among an elite group of 60 Division I men's basketball players. The Marietta, Ga. native will graduate this spring with plans to enroll in a graduate school for sports management.
The women are among a similar small group of 127 Division I women's basketball players to receive the honor.
Drees and Boykin are seniors. Drees has maintained a 3.5 GPA, will major in biology and plans to attend graduate school next year. Boykin, who maintains a 3.9 with an exercise science major, was just accepted to University of Kentucky's medical school program for next year.
For Waddle and Beining this is the first time receiving this honor as athletes are not eligible until their junior seasons. Both are majoring in exercise science. Waddle maintains a 3.85, while Beining has a 3.54.
