Georgetown College softball runs its Mid-South Conference record to 12-0 following explosive wins Saturday over West Virginia Tech (6-15, 2-10 MSC)
The Tigers, 19-8 overall, hit three home runs and crushed 21 hits, while blanking the Golden Bears. Senior Whitney Ealey led the charge with two home runs of her own as Georgetown won 8-0 and 9-0, both in five innings.
Ealey had a pair of two-run shots, the second of which ended the second game. She was 2-of-5 for the day with four RBI and three runs scored. Madelyn Brown broke the second game open with a three-run home run to deep right center that had the ball bouncing in the parking lot. The 1-0 game became 4-0 and it was all GC after that.
Michelle Dresselhaus pitched the first shutout, allowing just one hit with eight strikeouts, six in a row. Miranda Buchanan had an equally impressive game and held a no-hitter until a sharp liner was too much for second baseman Mallory Johnson haul in.
It ended as the lone hit, as Johnson then turned a double play the very next batter to set the stage for Ealey's walk-off homerun. Buchanan struck out four and walked just one.
Brown went 3-of-4 with a run scored and four RBI on the day, while Rachel Johnson went 3-of-5 with two runs scored.
Georgetown returns to action Tuesday on the road at MSC foe University of Rio Grande.
