Men's Golf - Tue, Apr. 26, 2011
After two rounds of the Mid-South Conference men's golf tournament, Christian Heavens is tied with a two-shot lead. The Georgetown senior won the 2010 individual crown and despite a down year by his standards, he was focused on defending his title.
"Other conference players have been doing really well this year. I've not been happy with my performances," Heavens said after a third place finish in this past week's Bluegrass Classic at Cherry Blossom.
"I have a week to prepare and get ready for the conference tournament. It's about beating them on the course."
The Illinois native is currently tied with University of the Cumberlands Aaron Watkins, who finished second at Cherry Blossom.
GC is third in the team competition behind the Patriots and Lindsey Wilson. The Tigers have shot a two-round total of 624, 21-shots back of UC and six behind the Blue Raiders.
Drew Hockensmith is tied for eighth and five shots back of Heavens at 154. J.T. Ross is tied for 15th with a two-round total of 159.
Heavens' first round of 75 put him a shot back tied for third heading into yesterday afternoon's second round. Cumberlands' Watkins and Niclas Rigbrandt led with a 74.
The third and final round is played today in Bardstown.
