The accolades from a banner 2010 football season continue to roll in for Georgetown College's seniors Kaelin Ammons and Matt Byrd.
Both received VSN All-American honorable mention status following the 9-3 Mid-South Conference East Division Championship and national tournament appearance season. Now both have been named to Consensus Draft Services' 2011 Preseason NAIA All-American Team.
Ammons, who returned under center for his junior season after spending the previous two years at wide receiver, threw for 2,865 yards on 200-of-340 passing and 34 touchdowns. He also proved to be agile in the pocket, rushing for 398 yards on 66 attempts and six scores.
His efforts earned him MSC Offensive Player of the Year honors and MSC Player of the Week honors Oct. 25. He was also on the MSC All-Conference East Division team.
Byrd is part of the solid offensive line that helped the Tigers to Top 25 national rankings in first downs per game, offensive yards per game, scoring offense per game, total scoring offense, third down conversions, pass offense per game, pass efficiency, total pass offense per game, total rush offense per game, rushing offense per game and fourth down conversions.
For his efforts, Byrd was recognized as part of the MSC All-Conference East Division team.
The Tigers open the 2011 season with a stiff road challenge against Ottawa University in Ottawa, Kan. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m. EST.
