In athletics, the saying goes, if you cannot play, coach. However, one Georgetown College head coach is proving that adage wrong. Former Tiger great and current women's cross country and track and field coach Betsy Laski is having a very solid running season of her own.
In four races this year, she has finished first in her age division three times. The other, she finished 142nd in a little run called the Boston Marathon. Her time of three hours, four minutes and 16 seconds, a 7:01 minute-mile pace, was 42 minutes behind the winning time of 2:22:36.
Laski won the 7th Annual Lory's Place 5k Run/Walk/Rock race in St. Joseph, Mich., May 21. Her time of 18:55 was 35 seconds better than the next closest competitor. On June 4, she won the Run for the Nun in Lexington and just this past weekend finished first in her age division and third female in the Bluegrass 10k. She finished in a time of 38:27, 1:14 behind the winner and 10 seconds behind second place.
