Women's Basketball - Wed, Jul. 13, 2011

For Georgetown College women's basketball the score in the game is just as important as the scores in the classroom. Evident in the abundant honors received this past year for academic success. Four Tigers were named 2011 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athletes and eight received All-Academic Mid-South Conference honors this past season.

"Our players take everything very seriously," head coach Andrea McCloskey said. "They want to succeed on the court, in the classroom and in life. All of which drives them to work as hard as they possibly can."

Accolades are not the motivating factor, but definitely a product of the student-athletes tireless efforts. So it was no surprise when the WBCA announced its Academic Top 25 Honor Roll, GC was at No. 6 with a 3.480 grade point average collectively.

Individually, seniors Emily Drees and Mandi Boykin, as well as juniors Gina Beining and Jessica Waddle earned the national scholar honor for maintaining a 3.5 GPA or higher this past year. Senior Jess Slonim, junior Mikkah Rogers and sophomores Devon Golden and Lindsay Fultz joined the other four as honorees on the MSC list.

Freshmen are not eligible for academic honors at all and sophomores cannot be considered for the national award, but a team GPA of 3.48 speaks to the level of commitment across the board that all 14 team members had this past year.

The honors did not end there either. Boykin also earned the coveted Dean's Honor Award this past May, becoming the first transfer student to receive the award.
