Georgetown College men's soccer team was tabbed to finish
seventh this season by a preseason Mid-South Conference coaches' poll. Each
head coach from the eight participating teams send in their pick of rankings,
the points are added up to get the overall picture of how the conference sees
The Tigers struggled through injuries, never playing a
game with fourth-year head coach Derek Willis' preseason idea of starters. Many
of his young players got great game experience, which he hopes translates into
a more productive season this year.
GC received 15 points, picked ahead of University of
Pikeville with seven points. University of Rio Grande took the top spot with
six first place votes and 47 points. Lindsey Wilson College was right behind
with 43 points and one first place vote. University of the Cumberlands got 37
points and the final first place vote. All three of these teams were among the
NAIA's preseason coaches' poll Top 25.
Campbellsville University is tabbed fourth with 33
points, St. Catharine got 22 points and Shawnee State picked up 20 to finish
ahead of GC.
The Tigers play the first of two exhibition games Friday
night against NCAA Division II Bellarmine. Then next week play NCAA Division
III Hanover for the final tune-up before opening on the road against Taylor
University Aug. 31.
