Women's Soccer - Mon, Oct. 3, 2011
Georgetown College's Cathie Shaver earned her first Mid-South Conference women's soccer Defensive Player of the Week award for the first time this season and second of her career. The senior from Shelbyville has allowed just 16 goals in nine games played with three shutouts.
"She has been a rock for us in goal this season," said Tiger coach Leah Crews Castleman. "Early on because of injuries we had a much younger defense in front of her than I anticipated. This put her under fire a lot, but she has come up with save after save for us and is keeping us in games when we need her."
Shaver is ranked inside the Top 50 nationally in saves per game with 6.222 saves per game and 56 total saves.
Two of the shutouts have come in the past two weeks against conference opponents, University of Pikeville and Campbellsville University. GC won both games 1-0 and 2-0 respectively. Her other shutout was against Taylor in a 0-0 draw.
Shaver currently sits fifth in the conference with a 1.827 goals against average per game.
