University of Pikeville did what it did this past year in
Kansas City - get behind and make a furious push. But, the comeback came up
just short, as Georgetown College opened Mid-South Conference play with an
86-84 win Saturday.
The Tigers (7-0, 1-0 MSC) were ahead 73-58 with under 10
minutes to play. But, the Bears (6-1, 0-1) pulled within one 85-84 with 6.8 remaining.
Russ Middleton stepped to the line for GC and hit one-of-two as the Tigers
pulled out the win at the East Kentucky Expo Center.
Georgetown got 38 points off the bench, including a
team-tying high 16 from Tyrone Shelley. The senior hit a three to tie the game
early in the first half, igniting a 12-0 run. The Tigers never trailed again. Maurice
Pearson also had 16 points, while Garel Craig chipped in 12 and Allan Thomas
The Tigers stay on the road, facing University of
Virginia College at Wise Monday. Tip is set for 8 pm.
