At the corner of the players' entrance to the field of Toyota Stadium stands The Rock, a symbol of the heralded tradition of Georgetown College football.
The Rock was extracted from the 50 yard line, "the heart" of Hinton Field, the Tigers home field prior to the construction of Toyota Stadium in 1997. Prior to taking the field for each game, the Tiger players touch The Rock as they pass, as sign of respect for tradition and unity.
The plaque which stands alongside The Rock reads as follows:
Over a hundred years of tradition lie on The Rock. The commitment of all those who have stepped on The Rock before and after us will live forever. We acknowledge our purpose with these three ingredients of the soul: brotherhood, honor and pride. The blood, sweat and tears shed on The Rock remind us of what we stand for and who we are. As we remember The Rock and all that it has brought to our lives, let us not forget that the tradition and commitment to excellence will continue to live on. The brotherhood, honor and pride will be in the heart of every Tiger, forever.
