[Tennis] Tennis falls to IU to open spring season

Georgetown College men's and women's tennis teams kicked
off the spring season with a pair of losses to University of Indianapolis, an
NCAA Division II school. The Greyhounds men, currently 3-0 on the season,
defeated GC's men 7-2, while UI beat the women 8-1 in its first match.

The Tigers were swept in the doubles competition on both
sides. GC coach Jessica Cunningham's No. 1 men's doubles of Benjamin Aspillaga
and Chris Bartlett and No. 2 women's team of Shelby Eden and Natalie Hill had the
closes matches. The men lost 8-6 and the women fell 9-7.

[Men's Basketball] Tigers drop Wise, 94-60

Georgetown College men's basketball did not mess around
this week in either game. After holding University of Pikeville to just 49
points, the Tigers allowed University of Virginia College at Wise just 11 more than
that. The No. 12 Tigers rolled off another huge win, 94-60, at Davis-Reid
Alumni Gym Saturday. They improve to 19-5 and 9-3 in the conference, heading
into the final three weeks.

"We had to respond to the adversity we faced this past
week on the road," said GC coach Chris Briggs. "I think they guys did a great job
of that on our home court. Now we have to do it when we go on the road."

The Tigers have six more games total, five inside
conference, including a rematch against No. 8 Lindsey Wilson College on Senior
Day in two weeks.

[Women's Basketball] Tigers outlast Wise, 96-85

A pair of seniors and a sophomore helped the No. 18
Tigers (17-7, 9-3) shrug off a hungry University of Virginia College at Wise
team, 96-85. The win keeps them firmly in third in the Mid-South Conference
standings. Campbellsville is in fourth at 6-5, two and a half back from GC.

All the stats seemed to be in Georgetown College women's
basketball team's favor at the half, but it held just a 47-43 edge over the
Cavaliers (5-19, 1-12).

In the end GC was too much offensively and defensively. Senior
Gina Beining recorded her second double-double of her college career, while
Mikkah Rogers continued to have the hot hand from deep. Andrea Howard was
one-point shy of her career high with 33 Saturday, helping thwart Kristin
Mullins 29 point effort.

[Baseball] Tigers open at home for first time since 2006

It was 2006 the last time Georgetown College baseball got
to play a season-opener at Robert N. Wilson Field. The Tigers (2-0) were
scheduled to be on the road, but took a potential rainy situation in Tennessee
and turned it into a home doubleheader with Asbury University, which was facing
a similar fate. Georgetown needed late inning offensive power to beat the Eagles
(0-2) 4-1 and 6-0.

The Tigers were schedule to go to Henderson, TN and
potentially spend the weekend in a hotel. Coach Micah Baumfeld decided GC
baseball would be better off finding someone to come to Georgetown.
Freed-Hardeman's baseball coach agreed with the decision, feeling certain the
weekend would be a washout with 80 percent chance of rain Friday and nearly the
same Saturday. It just so happened that Asbury was playing in the same
Tennessee area and also did not want to make the long trip and get no games.

[Baseball] Baseball opens at home

Georgetown College baseball's first weekend of play is
not a total loss. The Tigers, who were supposed to head to Tennessee this weekend,
will instead be staying home for games Friday.

The threat of rain, 80 percent chance, made it an easy
decision for Freed-Hardeman and GC yesterday in canceling the four-game series.
It just so happened that Asbury University ended up in the same situation as it
was to travel to Union University.

"Every chance you get to play is great," said GC coach
Micah Baumfeld. "Generally we don't have the benefit of home games so early, or
even to start a season, but it just worked out that way. Once we knew we were not
going to Henderson and Asbury couldn't go to Jackson, it just made sense."

First pitch is set for 3 pm out at Robert N. Wilson Field.

"This is the nature of spring. One plan doesn't work or
can't happen, go to another plan," Baumfeld said. "Our seniors are really
excited about this, and I'm glad it all worked out."

Click for Live Stats here.

Georgetown College women's basketball came out a bit

Georgetown College men's basketball ended a two-game skid

Pikeville, winning 74-49. The No. 12 Tigers came out strong and never let up,
something that has plagued them the past several games.

Georgetown College men's basketball fell for the second
time this week on the road inside the Mid-South Conference. The No. 4 Tigers (17-5,
7-3) dug a huge hole at Campbellsville (15-7, 4-6) and despite a flurry of
offense in the final nine minutes could not pull it off. The CU Tigers hung on
for a 79-76 win.

Campbellsville's Reggie Smith hit a three to put his team
up 55-39 with 9:56 left. Enter GC's Tyrone Shelley. The senior from San Diego exploded,
fueling the comeback. He got hot, as GC made a 17-4 run to be down three, 59-56.
CU called a time and regrouped to score six straight for a nine-point edge.

Within the final two minutes, GC mounted another rally
behind Maurice Pearson and with Campbellsville missing free throws, the Tigers
were back within two with 11 seconds left.

Thursday in Springfield. The Patriots, which are receiving votes, trailed by 13

[Women's Basketball] Slow start hurts No. 17 Tigers

A slow start dooms Georgetown College women's basketball.
In a bit of Jekyll and Hyde mode, No. 17 Tigers struggled offensively Thursday
against St. Catharine, which is receiving votes. After getting behind by as
many as 27, GC (14-7, 6-3 Mid-South Conference) fought back. However, it was
too large of a mountain to climb, as the team fell 72-60 on the road in
Springfield.

Georgetown is coming off one of its best shooting weeks
all season, winning big this past week over University of Rio Grande and West
Virginia Tech. In both games, the Tigers hit 55 percent from the field, but managed
just 33 percent against SCC (17-5, 4-5).

[Men's Basketball] Tigers weather late push from Tech in win

Georgetown College men knew the out-of-conference game
with West Virginia Tech would not be what it has been in the past. The future
NAIA independent school pulled out of the Mid-South Conference this season, but
had the Golden Bears (13-6) remained, they would be sitting in second place with a 7-2
record at the end of the first half of league play.

The No. 6 Tigers (17-3) took care of business, though,
using a 29-14 run for a 21-point lead midway through the second half. WVT made
a run, getting as close as six late before GC took control again to win 93-81.

"We knew it was going to be a great game tonight," said
GC head coach Chris Briggs. "Tech has beaten Lindsey Wilson, St. Catharine and
Pikeville, all ranked teams, thus far this season. If this team were still in our
conference it would be in a tie for second place with Lindsey."

[Women's Basketball] Tigers blaze nets, another team in 96-46 win Saturday

Georgetown College women's basketball team has not
struggled to score this season, averaging 73.5 points. But, the No. 18 Tigers (14-6)
have not always been the sharpest of shooters. Coming into this week's home
games, Georgetown was hitting about 23 shots per game. The team hit roughly 37
shots in each of this week's games of onslaught wins.

GC followed up its 33-point shooting clinic over
University of Rio Grande, which has been receiving votes in the national poll,
with a 96-46 win over West Virginia Tech (6-15) on Saturday.

"Coming off back-to-back losses and our first losses in
the conference this past week, this is what we needed to do," said Tiger head
coach Andrea McCloskey. "We have to win the ones we should and a pair of home
games are just that."

[Men's Basketball] Men rebound with big win, 88-57

Georgetown College men's basketball team used an 80-foot
buzzer-beater for fuel in refocusing them for this week's home Mid-South
Conference games. While the University of Rio Grande matchup was at times
slower and not pretty, the final result is exactly what GC coach Chris Briggs
wanted an 88-57 win.
