[Women's Cross Country] Overpeck improves at nationals

Sophomore Elisha Overpeck traveled cross country to compete in her second national cross country meet. The Elsmore native ran a 19 minute 39 second 5k to finish 128th. She ran a 19:55 for 183rd a season ago.

"I'm just really proud of Elisha," said Tiger women's cross country coach Betsy Laski. "We had to travel all the way to Vancouver, Washington. Last year she had three male teammates to sort of help her prepare and this year it was just her and I out there.

"She had a slip late, but she got right back up and crossed the line in a faster time than a season ago. That is really all I can ask for is to see her improving. Every course is different and every race has its own unique challenges, but as we go to these events as long as I can see progress we are doing the right things."

Georgetown College women's cross country team had a good day Saturday in the Greater Louisville Classic. The Tigers' 11th place team finish only had them behind two Mid-South Conference teams.

Todd McDaniel wasted little time in recruiting his first class of cross country and track and field athletes. In his first year as head coach of both, the former Georgetown College standout has signed Brandon Pulliam, Tanner Alexander, Peyton Anderson - all three of which will be doing both sports - and Cody Mattingly, Steven Jones, and JT Burns - all just on the track team.
